Well-loved footballer turned pundit and TV presenter, Chris Kamara collected his MBE at Windsor Castle today (Tuesday, March 7) from Prince William, Prince of Wales and the Prince's official Twitter account used the opportunity to have some fun. Chris was awarded the MBE for his services to Association Football, to anti-racism and to charity. In recent months, the Middlesborough-born star has spoken openly about his diagnosis of apraxia of speech.
The Prince and Princess of Wales's official Twitter account posted a picture of Chris collecting his MBE from Prince William and used one of Chris's most well-known catchphrases in the caption. They said: "We're off to Windsor Castle where there's been an MBE, but for who @chris_kammy?" You can keep up to date with the latest TV and showbiz news by signing up to the newsletter here.
The fun tweet was in reference to the now iconic clip from 2010 when Kammy was asked during a Blackburn v Portsmouth match who'd been sent off. His Soccer Saturday co-presenter Jeff Stelling cuts to Kammy saying; "We're off to Fratton Park now where there has been a red card, but for who Chris Kamara?" Chris famously replied: "I don't know Jeff!" having missed the red card being given.
In a documentary about Chris's speech apraxia both Chris and Jeff became emotional as they remembered Chris's last ever Soccer Saturday.
Many fans congratulated Chris on his MBE, commenting on the Royal's post. One said: "Brilliant, congratulations Chris" followed by a thumbs up. Another added: "Well deserved MBE for one of my favourite people who is an example to many. Congratulations our Kammy. xx" with clapping and heart emojis.
A third said: "Fabulous could not have happened to a nicer chap - well deserved Kammy" and "Congratulations Chris well deserved" followed by clapping and heart emojis. A fifth added: "Congratulations well deserved xx" with a red love heart emoji.
