Fans compare Brian Cody and Henry Shefflin to Roy Keane and Mick McCarthy after icy handshake

It was a battle of master versus apprentice at Pearse Stadium this afternoon and the apprentice came out on top - as Kilkenny legend Henry Shefflin managed Galway to a one-point win over Brian Cody's Cats.

Kilkenny launched a second half comeback and levelled the game in additional time, but Conor Cooney struck from a placed ball right at the death to give Galway the win.

Shefflin and his former boss Cody didn't exchange too many pleasantries after the game - and the handshake between the pair sent social media into overdrive, with some comparing it to handshakes between Roy Keane and Mick McCarthy.

One Twitter user summed up the frostiness of the post-match formality, tweeting: "Brian Cody didn’t shake my hand yet I still feel like he reached into my soul and tried to evict a spirit. The grasp. The stare. Forcing Shefflin to turn away. Epic."

Another tweeted: "Absolute daggers from Cody to Shefflin."

Another fan joked: "Stick that Brian Cody Henry Shefflin handshake in the Louvre."

The Keane-McCarthy comparisons were plentiful as well, with one hurling fan observing: "Jesus Christ Keane/McCarthy-esque handshake between Cody and Shefflin there."

"Jesus that Cody-Shefflin handshake had serious Keane-McCarthy vibes," was the view of another tweeter.
