Fans and famous faces throw support behind Lewis Capaldi after he announces break from touring due to health issues

Lewis Capaldi has taken a break from live performances for the foreseeable future to continue adjusting to life with Tourette's - a condition he was diagnosed with in late 2022 and which he's spoken about extensively. This has meant cancelling shows around the world, but, instead of worrying about refunds and complaining about the scrapped shows, fans of Lewis have shown their calibre by the outpouring of love and concern for the singer and praising his decision to get himself well.

On Tuesday, June 27, Lewis shared a statement on Instagram saying he was 'incredibly sorry' but that it was 'obvious' that he needs to work on his health and a three-week break at the start of June was not enough.

In his statement thanking fans for the amazing messages of support, he said: "The fact that this probably won't come as a surprise doesn't make it any easier to write but I'm very sorry to let you know I'm going to be taking a break from touring for the foreseeable future."

He went on to say that he was 'incredibly sorry to everyone who had planned to come to a show' but he wanted to be well enough to perform to a standard deserved by his dedicated fans. "Playing for you every night is all I've ever dreamed of so this has been the most difficult decision of my life."

The announcement, which also means that his Chepstow Racecourse gig on July 1 is cancelled - more on that here - resulted in fans, friends and famous faces getting behind the singer to support his decision.

Fellow pop star Professor Green told him 'no one's going anywhere' in a comment on the Instagram statement. He wrote: "Sending all the love mate. As tough as time out is - as someone who’s had to take my fair share of it - there’s no reward like getting on top of your health bro, no one’s going anywhere. All the best."

Radio 1 Breakfast Show DJ, Greg James also wrote a message of support with a nod to Alan Partridge: "You’re brilliant. Very courageous to admit something like this. Everyone is quite clearly behind you all the way. You deserve a Norfolk Bravery Award for this. I’ll get Alan to send one." TV presenter Mark Wright added: "What a man. Brave beyond belief, not to mention the impeccable talent that oozes from you!! Have a well deserved rest, we will all wait patiently for your return."

Fan evesteele21 told the singer: "Even though I have tickets I'm so glad you've made this decision for yourself. You are setting a great example that self care is the most important thing. We'll be here waiting when you are ready. In the meantime we'll be listening to your beautiful music and wishing you the best xx"

Another fan due to see Lewis added: " I had tickets booked for August and as excited as I was to see you - I would MUCH rather you get better and focus on what’s important." And: "If ever there was a moment a person DIDNT need to apologise it's now. I'm pretty sure anyone who knows who you are stands behind you." One fan in Japan said on Twitter: "I was excited to see you in Japan but I understand more the need to put your health first and foremost. If you don't take care of yourself how can you live? That's no life! It's your life Lewis! You matter! We all love and support you no matter what ! Take all the time in the world you need."
