Fancy seeing rare Banksy artwork in Hong Kong – just in case it’s shredded soon?

A framed copy of Banksy’s famed ‘Girl with Balloon’ from 2004 was spontaneously shredded during an auction using a mechanical device the artist had hidden in the frame.

There is no need to comb the streets and alleyways for signs of Banksy as Phillips Auction is rounding up 27 works by the elusive artist/vandal at its selling exhibition ahead of the auction house’s November art sale.

Dubbed ‘Banksy: Who’s Laughing Now?’, the exhibition includes significant works by the artist, as well as never-seen-before pieces.

From now until December 7, prints and unique works will be on display at the Phillips Gallery in Central, where the auction will take place simultaneously with Phillips’ Evening Sale of 20th Century & Contemporary Art on November 25 at the Mandarin Oriental.

‘Monkey Poison’ from 2004 has been in a private collection and has never been publicly shown before

This is your chance to catch a glimpse of the famed Girl with Balloon.

Who knows, Banksy could be in on another stunt, and you could be witness to the shredding another one of his million dollar works.

Banksy’s ‘Girl with Balloon AP Gold’ from 2004 features the now iconic image but with the heart shaped balloon in gold instead of red. This is an extremely rare artist’s proof of an edition of only 88 that has never come to the market before.

Banksy opts for a wooden pallet as canvas for ‘Love Rat on Pallette’.

This is among the numerous interpretations of the graffiti artist’s ‘Gas Mask Boy’ from 2009, and this is the first time this work form the artist’s famous series is being included in a selling exhibition.

What jewellery pieces are set to hit the auction block this month?

‘Bacchus at the Seaside’ from 2009 is the artist’s satirical take on Guido Reni’s ‘Bacchus and Ariadne’ circa 1621.

Banksy’s ‘Love is in the Air’ from 2003 is one of the more recognisable works by the artist.

Exhibition: Now – December 7

Location: 14/F St. George’s Building, 2 Ice House Street Central Hong Kong
