FAMOUS Scottish actor Jack Lowden has hit out at plans to close a number of nurseries in the community he grew up in.
Seven nurseries have been earmarked for temporary closure in the Scottish Borders, including the Channelkirk nursery he went to as a child.
Writing on Instagram, the Slow Horses star hit out at the move, however.
He said: “Hearing that Scottish Borders Council have been closing rural nurseries across the area, with many more slated for closure or ‘mothballing’. Specifically in my old stomping ground of Channelkirk.
“This is apparently happening all across the country in rural areas. These nurseries are a vital lifeline for many families. Money’s tight across the board, of course, but these decisions seem counterintuitive to attracting people and businesses to our rural areas.”
Lowden has appeared in films including Dunkirk (2017), Calibre (2018) and Mary Queen Of Scots (2018).
He is married to fellow Hollywood star Saoirse Ronan and has been outspoken in his support for Scottish independence, including sharing photos from The National’s 2019 Yes rally in George Square.
