Famous DJ eyes up This Morning role after Phillip Schofield is axed from show

A legendary DJ is seemingly eyeing up the fresh job post on ITV's This Morning.

After 20 years, Phillip Schofield suddenly left the multi-award-winning daytime show after a bombshell announcement on May 20.

It comes after days of speculation that he and co-host Holly Willoughby had fallen out following the trial of his brother, Timothy.

Now DJ Fat Tony has thrown his hat in the ring, according to the Mirror. He posted a photo of himself behind the decks with Alison beaming, which was captioned: "The new presenters of @thismorning @alisonhammond55."

The photo had over 1,000 likes at time of writing and fans flocked to the comments section to support the suggestion.

One person wrote: "I’d love that too be true," with another adding: "Ohhh this would sort that s*** show out for sure."

A third fan commented: "MAKE IT Happen could not think of anyone more entertaining," while a fourth said: "I'd actually watch it if you were presenting!"

After securing her place as a fan favourite, Alison Hammond appears to also be the frontrunner to replace Phil.

She has the hosting duties on Friday alongside Dermot O'Leary, who is also in the running, with Rylan also rumoured to be in line to present with Holly.

Announcing his decision with a statement on his Instagram Stories, Phil said: "I have always been proud to cover fascinating stories on This Morning. But recently, This Morning itself has become the story.

"Throughout my career in TV – including the very difficult last few days – I have always done my best to be honourable and kind. I understand that ITV has decided the current situation can’t go on, and I want to do what I can to protect the show that I love.

"So I have agreed to step down from This Morning with immediate effect, in the hope that the show can move forward to a bright future. I’d like to thank everyone who has supported me – especially This Morning’s amazing viewers – and I’ll see you all for the Soap Awards next month."

Holly also took to her Instagram Stories to pay a sweet tribute to her former co-host.

She wrote: "Hi everyone... It's been over 13 great years presenting This Morning with Phil and I want to take this opportunity to thank him for all of his knowledge, his experience and his humour. The sofa won't feel the same without him."
