Family who ran popular EK Chinese takeaway share exciting news

A Chinese take-away that was top of the woks for generations of food-lovers in East Kilbride is returning.

The Marlboro in Westwood, which opened in the 70s, served its last takeaway in April with the family owners deciding to step away.

But Leo Au-Yeung hinted at the time that the much-loved haunt could return in some form.

And this week he took to social media with exciting news sure to curry favour with loyal punters - the business will reopen under new ownership.

Leo wrote: "As some may have seen today the new owners were in today. I have a approximate date for first day of business under new ownership, we are looking at the 16th of this month.

"I know most would assume new ownership means different food but it’s been agreed that all recipes will remain the same especially the curry sauce.

"As they are new to the area I hope everyone can understand when I ask everyone to be patient with them as they are human and learning and mistakes will happen. Anyway hope everyone likes the news and we’ll see you soon."

Leo's dad, Stevie, passed away at the end of last year, with the family receiving condolences from across the town, and his mum retired.

The family business was inundated with well-wishes when Leo announced it was to close earlier this year.

But customers were delighted with Leo's latest announcement.

One wrote: "Best Chinese food ever!! Fell in love with Marlboro age 14. Nearly 60 now and drooling at the thought of a decent chicken curry. Not had one since you guys closed - best wishes on reopening."

Another added: "Best news of 2022."

Last month the eatery featured on pictures of a fashion-shoot in Westwood Square, with models sitting on a bench outside it.

Footasylum released images for their store featuring models posing in the local shopping precinct.

The clothing brand picked the Lanarkshire spot for their winter collection much to the amusement of local residents.
