An Ayrshire dog owner has been left horrified after her beloved pet lost his eye in a shock attack.
Audrey Duncan was walking her Shih Tzu dogs Mylo, five, and Gizmo, 14, in Howard Park, Kilmarnock, around 4.30pm on Monday with her two grandchildren, aged nine and four.
During the walk, a Spaniel dog approached the family and attacked little Mylo before Audrey even had a chance to react.
The 65-year-old didn't realise the extent of little Mylo's injuries until they managed to get home and saw his eye 'bulging out'.
He was rushed in to see the vets, but sadly the extent of the damage was so serious they had to remove his eye.
She told our sister paper, the Daily Record: "It is awful. My head is all over the place.
"My two grandchildren were there and we are all traumatised.
"The dog was off the lead and it came over to my two dogs. I thought it was going to go for them and I didn't realise it had bit Mylo's eye.
"I'd say it was over in about three seconds, but I didn't realise till I got home how bad it was.
"He's only five and that's him got to live the rest of his life with one eye."
Mylo has now been discharged after surgery on Tuesday and is at home recovering with his family.
As well as dealing the emotional trauma of the incident, Audrey has been forced to fork out £1,500 to pay for Mylo's surgery.
She had been saving the cash to decorate her garden but will need to start over again following the incident.
Audrey has since reported the incident to the dog warden and hopes action can be taken to avoid another similar incident in the future.
A spokesperson for East Ayrshire Council said: "East Ayrshire Council's environmental health service is aware of the incident and has been in contact with the owner of the injured dog to obtain details with a view to pursuing an investigation under the Control of Dogs (Scotland) Act 2010."
