Grieving parents are still looking for answers 10 years after the death of their beloved daughter.
Kate Sisson, 18, was found burnt in a disused barn in West Hallam, near Ilkeston, days after she was last seen in January 2008.
After a lengthy police investigation, the cause of her death was never fully established, reports Derbyshire Live .
At the time, parents Sue Harrison and Ian Sisson offered a £20,000 reward for information that would resolve the case.
This month, on July 22, Katie would be turning 30 and her parents are once again appealing for information.
Sue said: "On January 8, 2008, our daughter Katie Louise Sisson left the house in the early hours of the morning to meet up with her ex-boyfriend in a derelict barn across the road from where she lived.
"She never returned. She was just 18."
Katie's body was found in the barn on High Lane West, a few days later.
A post-mortem report discovered extensive internal bruising to her jaw and head. This suggested that her hair had been pulled and she had been punched.
Katie also had marks on her wrist that suggested she could have been held against her will.
Her ex-boyfriend, Anthony Dexter, was the last person to see her alive but insisted in court he had nothing to do with her death and that she was fine when he left her.
After consideration, Dr Robert Hunter, Derby’s senior coroner, recorded an open verdict in the inquest.
Mr Hunter said: "As Anthony Dexter is believed to be the last person to see her alive, there has been a veiled implication connecting him to her death.
"Although Mr Dexter was with her, there is not one single piece of witness evidence, pathological evidence, or forensic evidence that he was involved with her death or had started the fire."
Katie's parents are convinced someone has information that could help solve the mystery.
Sue said: "We are again appealing for help to give closure to this awful event.
"If you know anything, no matter how small or insignificant it may seem to you, please come forward.
"You may have been there and are still living with Katie’s ghost and perhaps it is time to speak up about what happened on that night.
"We will never give up. Cast your mind back, should you have spoken up then? If so speak up now."
A spokesman for Derbyshire police said: "Katie Sisson’s death in January 2008 had a lasting impact on the close-knit community she lived in and left her family and friends devastated about the tragic loss of their loved one.
"Katie was found dead in a derelict barn close to her home in West Hallam and following an extensive police investigation and a subsequent coroner’s inquest, the cause of death could not be ascertained. The coroner recorded an open verdict.
"Unfortunately, there are no new leads about what happened to Katie and officers pursued all reasonable lines of enquiry during the initial police investigation.
"Katie’s family have made the decision to renew an appeal for information about what happened to her, in order to gain some closure in the month that she would have turned 30.
"Officers have been in liaison with the family and will continue to maintain contact should any new information come to light following the family’s appeal."
Anyone with information is urged to call police on 101 quoting Operation Midtown and the name of the officer in charge – Detective Sergeant Jo James.
