Hundreds of tributes have poured in for a teenage boy who died after entering the water at a quarry.
Officers from Lancashire Police and Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service were called by the ambulance service on Saturday, July 9 at around 9.40pm after a boy had got into difficulty in the water at Dawber Delph in Appley Bridge, West Lancashire. Following a search, the body of a 16-year-old boy was recovered from the water.
Police said he was pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin have been informed. A spokesperson for Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service said: "We were called at 9.36pm on the July 9, 2022, to Dawber Delph, Appley Bridge to assist Lancashire Police and North West Ambulance Service in the search for one person in the water. Three fire engines, a boat and the drone team were deployed.

A spokesperson for the Skelmersdale branch of Lancashire Police said: "A boy has sadly died following an incident at a quarry. We were called by the Ambulance Service around 9.40pm yesterday (Saturday, July 9) to a report a boy had entered the water and got into difficulty at Dawber Delph, Appley Bridge.
"Emergency services attended the scene and following a search the body of a 16-year-old boy was recovered from the water. He was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin have been informed and our thoughts are with them at this time.
"The death is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be passed to the coroner in due course." Since the news of the tragic death, hundreds of tributes have been paid for the teenager and messages of condolences to his family.
Writing on the ECHO's Facebook page, Lisa McCabe said: "Rip young man. Thoughts and prayers with his family at this sad time." Ann Henry added: "My heart goes out to his family because my boy often went there RIP."
Lisa Taylor also said: "Rest in peace, sleep with the angels. Sending love to your family." Sue Allen said: "RIP young man deepest condolences to family and friends." Jackie Buckley added: "My heart goes out to his family losing a child must be the hardest thing in the world. May he rest in peace, so very tragic."
