Family's heartfelt tribute as tragic A76 crash victim named and pictured

The family of a much-loved 67-year-old woman who died in a car crash on the A76 in East Ayrshire have today spoken of their sense of loss.

Margaret Lang was killed when she was involved in a two-vehicle collision between Crossroads and Crosshands around 12.15pm on Friday lunchtime.

She was driving an Audi Q3, which was involved in an incident with a grey Vauxhall Zafira, and was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

The 72-year-old male driver of the Vauxhall was taken by ambulance to Kilmarnock's Crosshouse Hospital before being transferred to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow where he was described as being in a serious condition.

A 66-year-old woman and five-year-old girl – who were passengers in the Vauxhall – and a five-year-old boy and four-year-old boy, who were passengers in the Audi, were all taken to Crosshouse Hospital as a precaution.

The road was closed for nine hours so the emergency services could treat the people involved and carry out investigation work.

In a statement issued through Police Scotland this morning, Margaret's family said: "Our family is deeply saddened by the loss of our beloved wife, mother and devoted grandmother.

"She will be sadly missed by all who loved her.”

Sergeant Ian Thornton of the divisional road policing unit said: “Our thoughts remain with Margaret’s family and friends at this time.

“Enquiries are ongoing into the crash and I would re-appeal to anyone who witnessed it take place or who has any personal footage to contact us. Any information should be passed to officers through 101 with reference number 1277 of 11 February.”
