Family run pub that 'fed thousands' closes its doors
The former landlord of a community pub has told the ECHO how "emptying the fridges" during the first national lockdown evolved into a scheme that helped feed thousands in need.
Adam Franklin has run the Horse & Jockey in Melling with wife Sue for almost seven years. Earlier this week, the ECHO revealed that the couple have walked away from the pub for good following a "saga" with landlord Stonegate.
The couple are opening a new venue, Alba, down the road. Adam and Sue helped thousands of people during the Covid-19 pandemic by giving 20,000 meals to those in need.

Adam said: "When lockdown hit, we knew a lot of our customers were elderly or single.
"The plan was to empty the fridge, support people in the local area and wait it out really."

Kingpin admits role in global plot to bring drugs to UK hidden in meat from Argentina
A man who went on the run following a raid on a Dutch cafe, suspected to be a front, has admitted his part in an international drug trafficking plot.
Michael Paul Moogan, 36, from Croxteth, went on the run in October 2013 after a raid on a cafe suspected of being a front for meetings between drug traffickers and cartels. The Café de Ketel in Rotterdam was not open to the public and only allowed entry via a security system.
NCA Senior Investigating Officer Ben Rutter said: “Moogan’s long overdue conviction is the result of years of investigation by the NCA and law enforcement partners in the UK, Europe and Middle East."

Person dies after being hit by a train at station
A person has died after being hit by a train.
Emergency services were called to Wigan North Western station at 11.20am today (Friday, November 4) after reports of a casualty on the tracks. The person was pronounced dead at the scene.
A spokesperson for British Transport Police said the incident is not being treated as suspicious. Work is ongoing to identify the person, reports the M.E.N.
