Family pay tribute to woman who died in crash that also killed four horses

A WOMAN has been named after she died in a serious road crash that also killed four horses.

Police were called to an incident on the A737 near Howwood in Renfrewshire at around 3am on Monday.

The collision involved a Mercedes A-class car and a MAN box van.

A 59-year-old woman, who was a passenger in the Mercedes, was pronounced dead at the scene.

She has now been named as Lesley McTear from Dreghorn.

(Image: Police Scotland) Lesley's family has paid a touching tribute to her following her tragic death.

They said: “Lesley was a loving wife, mother, grandma and daughter-in-law. As a family, we are deeply saddened by the events that have caused such a void in our family.

“Lesley was the glue that kept us all together and anyone who was lucky enough to know Lesley was showered by her unconditional love.”

A 33-year-old man who was also a passenger in the Mercedes and a 59-year-old man, who was driving the van, were both taken to the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley to be assessed.

Meanwhile, police received multiple reports of six horses roaming on the A737 amid the incident and four of them died after being struck by vehicles.

Two of them were taken to safety.

Detectives are still looking into the crash and they are calling on the public to get in touch if they witnessed anything significant.

Sergeant Jack Swindells said: “Our thoughts are with the family of the woman who has died and everyone involved.

“Our enquiries continue to establish the full circumstances and anyone who can assist with our investigation who has not already spoken to officers is asked to get in touch.”

If you can help please call Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 0291 of September 23.
