Thousands of pounds have been raised for a three-year-old girl who witnessed her mother being stabbed in an “act of senseless violence” at Notting Hill Carnival.
Cher Maximen, 32, was left in critical condition after she was attacked on Golborne Road at around 6pm on Sunday August 25.
She was taken to St Mary’s hospital in Paddington but despite the best efforts of medical staff, Ms Maximen died on Saturday morning, Metropolitan Police said.
In a statement issued through Big Ego Media, her family said: “Cher was beautiful inside and out. She has a lot of family and has many friends.
“She was a good mother and protector of family and close friends.”
Dismissing initial reports that suggested the model and clothes designer was trying to break up a fight when she was stabbed, her mother said: “My daughter was not parting any gang fight with a three-year-old.”
The Independent reports that Ms Maximen had been with her young child and other family and friends when she was attacked.
A fundraiser has been set up for Ms Maximen’s only daughter to go towards therapy after she witnessed the fatal stabbing.
A GoFundMe page organised by Yasmin Joseph said: “Cher was enjoying a joyful day out with her beloved three-year-old daughter when her life was cut short in an act of senseless violence.
“In light of this heartbreaking loss, we have created this GoFundMe page to provide funds towards Cher's funeral as well as essential financial and therapeutic support for Cher’s daughter, who now faces a future without her mother.
“This little girl deserves all the love and care we can offer during this incredibly difficult time.
“Cher was not just a mother; she was a shining light in her community, known for her warmth and kindness.
“Her smile brought joy to many, and her legacy will live on through her daughter.
“Together, we can help ensure that this young girl has the resources she needs to grow up surrounded by love, support, and opportunities.”
Over £4,000 had been raised late on Sunday evening.
On Tuesday officers arrested Shakiel Thibou, 20, of Masbro Road in Hammersmith.
He was charged with attempted murder and appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.
He was remanded in custody to appear at the Old Bailey on September 25.
Two of Thibou’s brothers also appeared alongside him in the dock in connection with the same incident.
Detective Chief Inspector Alex Gammampila of the Met’s Homicide Command previously said: “My thoughts are with Cher’s loved ones as they come to terms with this terrible loss.
“They are being supported by specialist officers and we will make sure that support continues.
“Cher was at Carnival with her young child. We have been in close contact with our local authority partners and Cher's family since soon after this incident to make sure the child is safe and looked after.”
Ms Maximen’s death comes a day after Mussie Imnetu, who was visiting the UK from Dubai, died in hospital after he was found unconscious near the Carnival on Monday August 26.
Mr Imnetu was taken to a west London hospital where, despite the best efforts of medical staff, he died on Friday, Met Police said.
On Thursday Omar Wilson, 31, of Napier Road, Leytonstone was charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent.
He appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Friday, where he was remanded in custody to appear at Southwark Crown Court on September 27.
