Family of tragic mum who took her own life sent important message

Many touching messages were left by ECHO readers after the heartbreaking story of a "beautiful" mum who took her own life when she found a lump in her breast.

Michelle Cooke from Crosby battled with her mental health from the age of 16 when she tried to take her own life. Since then, the mum to Jaimee and Tyler was diagnosed with bipolar disorder and often turned to alcohol when she began to struggle.

The 37-year-old spiralled when she found a lump on her breast on Wednesday, July 27, with Michelle then panicking and fearing the worst. She rang the doctors to try and make an appointment but Michelle took her life the next morning after a day and night of drinking, her mum told the ECHO.

Michelle's mum, Janet Filipe, has now called for more support for people who are suffering from poor mental health. She has said that there weren't enough services to help her daughter, who she described as a "beautiful, caring person."

She added: "She had everything going for her but she had this lump on her breast on her mind. She would spend so much time helping people. She helped the homeless and cooked meals for them. That was her and that was my daughter."

These were some of the comments left by ECHO readers after we ran the story.

Karina Svenson said: "Absolutely heartbreaking. Mental health can be such a lonely struggle."

Helen Fairclough said: "So sad - her poor children…. - I hope they get the support (family & professional) to get through this….

"RIP Michelle - it reads (from your bereaved mum) that you had many demons - and there are no harder things to fight than those that live in our own mind - so sad that you believed this was the way - I hope wherever you are, you've found peace…."
