A family have raised more than £150,000 to care for their beloved daughter who was left paralysed after being kidnapped by her ex-boyfriend.
Angel Lynn, then 19, suffered catastrophic brain injuries and was left unable to walk, talk or eat by herself after she fell from a moving van driving at 60mph.
CCTV showed the moment she was forced into the vehicle by her former boyfriend Chay Bowskill and his accomplice Rocco Sansome in Leicestershire in September 2020.
Doctors told Angel's family to prepare for the worst and that she might never make a full recovery from her injuries.
But the now 21-year-old has progressed more than expected and relatives are hoping to adapt their house so that they can finally bring her home.
So far, £153,325 has been raised through donations from loved ones and generous strangers.
Fahren Davis, described as Angel's cousin who set up the GoFundMe page, explained: "What we would like to do is raise as much money as possible to aid Angel's recovery with anything she needs.
"In order for Angel to return home she will need a lot of equipment to help her rehabilitation.
"Please help to get Angel home by raising as much money possible for Angel to give her the help she deserves."
Angel's mum Nikki Lynn, 47, did not think her daughter would ever hug her again following the devastating incident.
But in April, she felt her arm reach around her back and stroke her hair for the first time.
“She just put her hand straight around my back and started tapping me,” Nikki told the Mirror at the time.
"She didn’t hug much before, she was a typical teenager, but she would give you a hug if you were upset. It’s very special to have that hug now."
The family are now pouring their efforts into building an extension for their house in Loughborough, Leicestershire, so that it can be specially adapted for Angel to come home.
Planning permission was recently approved for the build and the family are more than half way towards achieving their £250,000 fundraising goal for the project.
Plans include a wrap-around extension, a downstairs wet room, a laundry and medication room and a hoist which would be used to help transport Angel between the living room, kitchen and bedroom.
The family are searching for generous tradespeople who are willing to donate their services to help Angel and hope to have enough money left to pay for specialist medical equipment.
Other costs will include rehabilitation for Angel who is currently being cared for at the Queen's Medical Centre in Notthingham.
"I pick her up every day and bring her home. She's doing so much better than she was and we're just so grateful for the help we've received so far," mum Nikki told Leicester Live.
"We've taken her to Twin Lakes and Twycross Zoo. She fed the animals and she's even helped me peg the washing out."
Nikki listed some of Angel's recent achievements and said "I'm so proud of her."
The brave survivor is learning to write again and can now note a few things down using a whiteboard, some days "as clear as anything."
"Yesterday she even used her right leg to push against the floor, trying to move her wheelchair along," Nikki continued.
"She's due to have an operation to straighten her left foot and maybe her right as its not been moved for a long time. Then she'll have two braces made to keep the position of the foot where it's supposed to be so eventually we can get her standing."
Angel is due to have communication equipment fitted to her wheelchair at the end of the month which will enable her to tap letters with her right hand to create sentences.
She is still being fed through a tube in her stomach and has been allowed to lick one ice lolly a week to try and improve her swallowing abilities.
Nikki added: "We're trying it for three weeks, but we've already seen an improvement.
"She chooses the flavours she likes - but last time she wanted Vimto flavour, one of the kids had it so she got stuck with blackcurrant!".
Bowskill, who threw Angel into the van before she was found seriously injured, was jailed for seven-and-a-half years in January after being found guilty of kidnap, controlling and coercive behaviour and perverting the course of justice.
But the Lynns were outraged and at the Court of Appeal, his sentence was increased to 12 years.
