The family of the victim in a shopping centre knife attack has expressed gratitude for the support they have received and given an update on her recovery.
Claudia Campomaya Watt, 63, was critically injured after allegedly being stabbed in the back while working at a Coles supermarket in Ipswich, southwest of Brisbane on Monday afternoon.
A 13-year-old boy has been charged with attempted murder over the incident.
The family describes the ordeal as devastating, saying they are still coming to terms with the attack.
They confirmed in a statement on Thursday Ms Campomaya Watt has been moved out of intensive care and is no longer sedated, and has been able to communicate with loved ones.
"We remain in shock but are thankful that Claudia is now on the road to recovery," the statement read.
"To the first responders who provided crucial medical attention, we thank you. To the doctors, nurses, and their team, we are extremely grateful.
"We would also like to acknowledge those who acted quickly to help detain the offender."
The family also expressed their appreciation for the outpouring of support from the community, noting that the well-wishes, prayers and assistance made a significant difference during this difficult time.
The alleged incident, earlier described by police as a random and abhorrent act of violence, has sparked widespread concern in the community.
Authorities say the teenager acted alone and investigations continue into how he allegedly obtained the knife.
The teen remains in custody and will next appear in court on February 25.
The stabbing has reignited calls for stronger measures to prevent knife-related crimes, with Queensland Premier David Crisafulli and Opposition Leader Steven Miles condemning the attack and pledging to address youth violence.
Coles has also expressed its support for the injured worker and her colleagues, providing counselling services and praising the efforts of bystanders who intervened.
The supermarket chain has also stopped selling knives at stores nationwide following the attack.
