Family of Irish teen magician who wowed Britain's Got Talent judges 'extremely proud'

The mum of teenage Irish magician Cillian O’ Connell (13) said she is “extremely proud” after her son wowed judges on Britain’s Got Talent last weekend.

Elaine Peppard O’ Connor took to social media to congratulate her talented son who has autism and dyspraxia.

“So glad that people will get to see the Cillian that melts our hearts.”

“Everyday we love you so so much and are so happy you finally got your dream that you have worked so hard for.

“As Cillian said 'autism is not a disability it’s an ability', and by god did he just show us all that this evening.”

The proud Mammy said she was “overwhelmed” by all the support for talented Cillian.

She added: “Everybody thank you all so much, we are all overwhelmed with the amount of people that are supporting Cillian.

“So happy people got to see our very own superhero.”

Cillian’s extraordinary talent for magic came to the attention of the Irish Mirror three years ago when we told how the teen (then 10 years old) from Mornington had become the youngest member to join the Society of Irish Magicians.

At the time his father, Richie spoke proudly of Cillian’s achievement.

“His confidence and interaction socially have improved dramatically since he started magic.

“He has learned how to interact and communicate in a way he never did before. He would sit in the corner with a book before this and talk to nobody. It has been a godsend.

“Every time we see the HSE care group he performs for them and they are amazed that he can now do an elaborate trick, where he wouldn’t have been able to button up his own shirt a couple of years ago.”

Cillian has sailed to the next round of Britain’s Got Talent after getting 4 nods of approval.

“When I grow up I want to be a magician,” Cillian said before hitting the stage last Saturday night.

“What I like about magic is just, try to make people smile.”
