Family of Dumbarton teenager killed in Greek holiday tragedy 'overwhelmed with sadness'

An 18-year-old teenager has today been described as a 'sweet boy' who was 'so loved' after his tragic death following a quad bike crash in Greece.

Ryan Bennet, from Dumbarton, was on holiday with his friends in Zakynthos when he was involved in the incident on Friday morning (July 7).

He was taken to a local hospital where he later died. The young man's heartbroken family have launched a JustGiving page to raise £10,000 in order to bring him back home and lay him to rest.

The fundraising page, sent to GlasgowLive by Ryan's uncle Craig Duncan, reads: "Our beloved Ryan has tragically lost his life in a quad bike accident on the Greek Island of Zante in the early hours of July 7.

"We're absolutely devastated at the loss of such a well mannered young gentleman who is loved by everyone lucky enough to know him.

"We are raising funds to help bring Ryan home so he can be laid to rest here in Scotland.

"Although we're completely overwhelmed with sadness, we feel honoured that we got to call you family and have you in our lives for 18 years. Rest in peace my sweet boy, you are so loved.

"Thank you in advance for any support you can provide during this difficult time. On behalf of Dougie, Iwona and extended Bennet family."

Ryan's girlfriend Caitlin Ball said she has been left devastated by the loss.

Caitlin wrote: "I lost the most important boy in my life and there is simply no way I could ever even begin to describe how losing your best friend like this feels. Ryan you are everything I ever wanted and so much more.

"I appreciate every single bit of love you have ever given me. I love you with my whole heart forever I hope I make you as proud as you make me my love."

The Police Department of Alykon of Zakynthos are carrying out an investigation with a post-mortem due to take place.

A spokesperson for the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office said: “We are supporting the family of a British man who has died in Greece and are in contact with the local authorities.”
