Bruce and Denise Morcombe are outraged after an image of their son Daniel was targeted in a graffiti attack outside a local school.

Mr Morcombe said two signs promoting the upcoming Walk for Daniel were defaced with red and green paint.

Daniel was 13 when he was abducted while waiting for a bus in 2003 on the Sunshine Coast.

The vandal targeted the signs and sprayed paint over Daniel's eyes, the Daniel Morcombe Foundation logo and the date on which the walk is set to be held.

"We think that's really disturbing and … he needs speaking to," Mr Morcombe said.

Bruce and Denise Morcombe said they were able to track down CCTV footage from a service station on Woombye-Palmwoods Road after the attack, which took place on October 7 at 5:30pm.

The vision shows an older man, aged between 65 and 70, spraying the banners then hiding the paint can under a white cloth in his hand.

"It was very targeted, very deliberate on Daniel's face," Mr Morcombe said.

Footage shows the man was driving an old model Subaru Forrester.

Denise Morcombe said she became emotional watching footage of the man carrying out the vandalism.

"I was pretty teary and really upset," Mrs Morcombe said.

Calls for help after 'act of evil'

The Morcombes have lodged a police report which includes the footage they obtained of the attack.

They are calling for the man to hand himself in to police or for the community to help identify him.

"This is not indiscriminate vandalism," Mr Morcombe said.

"This is very targeted, and the motives behind that we need to explore that further, much deeper."

"I think the person probably needs a bit of a health check," Mrs Morcombe said.

Member for Maroochydore Fiona Simpson said the vandalism was disturbing.

An annual walk to remember Daniel is set to be held on October 29, with signs erected over the past couple of weeks to promote the event.

Mr Morcombe said the vandalism would not stop the event from going ahead.

"I can assure the locals here on the Sunshine Coast, that Daniel's walk will definitely happen," he said.

"We hope people come and join us in greater numbers than perhaps they would have previously and show a bit of defiance and say, 'Mate, that's wrong'."
