The family of a woman critically injured in an alleged hit-and-run collision in Queensland is appealing for help to find her dog, which went missing in the incident.

Colin James Tupper is facing attempted murder charges after allegedly hitting Carla and Brett Benson with his car on Sorensen Road, Gympie, on Monday night.

Mrs Benson was flown to Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital with serious injuries, and remains there in a critical condition.

Mr Benson suffered minor leg injuries.

Mr Tupper was charged with two counts of attempted murder, wilful damage, drink driving and failing to render assistance.

His matter was heard briefly in Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Wednesday before it was adjourned to Gympie Magistrates Court for May 29.

Search for missing dog

Mrs Benson's niece, Karissa Benson, is coordinating a search for the couple's missing dog, a female red heeler named Chopper.

"After the [incident] occurred … we just know that she's missing," she said.

Ms Benson said Chopper was two years old, microchipped, and had a white spot on her forehead and two black patches around her eyes.
