Family issues desperate plea to find Co Tyrone man missing in Florida

A Co Tyrone family has issued a desperate appeal to help find a Pomeroy man missing in the US state of Florida.

John McNamee (47) was reported missing in the Jacksonville area on 26 May, with his family growing increasingly concerned for his whereabouts.

John first moved to Florida twelve years ago, and his uncle, also called John McNamee, says this is ‘totally out of character’.

The family has been told by police in Jacksonville that their enquiries are coming to an end due to a lack of leads as to where John might be.

“It’s totally out of character for him. He had been ringing home three or four times a week and he just lives for his two kids,” John told MyTyrone.

“They have searched in a nearby forest and are following his bank account, but as far as they are concerned they have hit a stalemate.

“We are making plans to go over now to try to search for him and want to appeal to anyone in the area who may be able to help us.

“It’s very hard to get any information out of the authorities over there, they don’t intend to go any further with it until they get a lead.”

The 47-year-old’s jeep was found next to a forest park not far from Jacksonville Airport, but there have been no reported sightings of him since.

“Everyone here at home is just sitting waiting on some news to come through, it’s not nice for the family,” his uncle added.

“We feel so far away and we’re just not getting any answers.

“If anyone has any information about where John might be please get in touch on 07800518083.

"John if you are out there, please contact any one of us here back home. Just let us know you are OK so that your children, mummy, daddy, sisters and brothers have peace of mind that you are safe."

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office where John was reported missing has been approached for comment.
