A British family arrived at popular holiday centre Center Parcs to find a dead body inside their lodge.

Emergency services were reportedly called to the Center Parcs site in Woburn, Bedfordshire, Birmingham Live reports.

The cleaner was reported to have been there for over an hour.

A source said to the Sun newspaper: “It was the worst possible start to their holiday. They were a family with children.

“They got in the room and the poor woman was lying there dead. Her family are absolutely devastated. It’s caused a lot of shock and upset.”

Center Parcs said: “Our thoughts and condolences are with the family and friends of our colleague.”

The holiday group operates six holiday villages in the United Kingdom and Ireland, with each covering about 400 acres.

The company's first village opened at Sherwood Forest, Nottinghamshire, in 1987 and its sixth, at Longford Forest, Ireland, opened in 2019.

Woburn was added in 2014. The project was expected to cost approximately £160 million, including the construction of accommodation, indoor and outdoor facilities, the sub-tropical swimming complex, restaurants and a spa, but this has since risen to £230m.

In July 2021, the company announced its intention to construct another resort, bringing its total number of owned villages in the UK and Ireland to seven.

The planned holiday park will be located near Crawley and in the vicinity of Gatwick Airport.
