Family holiday turns into 'nightmare' after luggage is lost twice in a week

A Belfast family say their first holiday in three years turned into a nightmare after their luggage was lost twice by their airline.

The Maguire Family flew from Dublin Airport to Venice with Lufthansa Airlines on Saturday, July 2, with a stopover in Frankfurt for a holiday but say they spent the entire time trying to find out about their three lost bags of luggage.

Two of the bags were eventually brought to them during the week, but as they arrived home on Saturday, July 9, they were told once again that their luggage would not be at the airport and was missing.

Speaking to Belfast Live, Laura Maguire said: "I work with the NHS and over the past three years I have not been able to take any time off for a holiday with my family and we were all looking forward to our trip.

"The first issues started in Dublin Airport where our flight to Frankfurt was delayed so when we eventually made it there we missed our connection. Then after running across the entire airport to try and make another flight, we were told that our family would have to be split up with my daughter and I on one flight and my husband on another.

"Once we arrived in Venice we were not even off of the plane when we were told that our luggage was missing and we spent hours trying to report this properly at the airport while we waited for my husband to arrive, who also did not have any luggage.

"Throughout the holiday we had to buy everything that we needed and had originally brought with us, but spent most of the time trying to track down where our bags were. On the Tuesday one of the bags was brought to us and another on Thursday, but my husbands remained lost the entire trip.

"As we were flying home we were met with more delays and once again had to run across Frankfurt Airport in order to make sure we got to our connection with minutes to spare. But once again as soon as we touched down we were told that we do not have any luggage.

"I think it is disgusting the way that we have been treated and it seems like the airline was more concerned about pushing flights out of the airports than ensuring that everyone's luggage was accounted for."

Lufthansa Airlines have been contacted for comment.
