'THE BATMAN'
Rated PG-13 for strong violent and disturbing content, drug content, strong language, and some suggestive material.
What it’s about: A rich young scion of Gotham dons a bat suit to fight crime; he fights villains the Penguin and the Riddler and tangles with Catwoman too.
The kid attractor factor: Kids will be drawn to the superhero character, but this is a very dark iteration of Batman.
Good lessons/bad lessons: What does it mean to be driven by vengeance, and is there anything beyond that?
Violence: The Riddler is leaving a series of dead bodies around Gotham City, and in the quest, Batman doesn't use a gun, but plenty of other villains do. He does beat up a lot of people, and there are car crashes, explosions, mass shootings, and other violent escapades.
Language: Some swearing and strong language.
Sex: Suggestive sexual material, but no sex on screen.
Drugs: References to and on screen use of a drug called "drops" administered through eye drops.
Parents’ advisory: Though this is a PG-13 film, it errs toward the side of a R-rating. It's dark, violent and deals with murder and other mature themes. OK for teens but not so much for kids.

'AFTER YANG'
Rated PG for some thematic elements and language.
What it’s about: A family reckons with the loss of an android family member.
The kid attractor factor: This is more of an adult drama, not so much appeal for kids.
Good lessons/bad lessons: Artificial intelligence may be more human than we think.
Violence: Some images of the lifelike android turned off/"dead" and cut open to inspect and repair parts.
Language: Not too much strong language to worry about.
Sex: None
Drugs: None
Parents’ advisory: A meditative and beautiful drama about existence. Not much appeal for kids or teens but OK for them to watch anyway.
