Family guide to new movie releases

'FANTASTIC BEASTS: THE SECRETS OF DUMBLEDORE'

Rated PG-13 for some fantasy action/violence.

What it’s about: The third installment of the "Harry Potter" prequel franchise following magizoologist Newt Scamander finds him foiling Grindelwald's attempts to grasp power.

The kid attractor factor: The fantastic beasts of course! The magical adventure genre and connection to the Potter universe will appeal to young audiences.

Good lessons/bad lessons: Always fight authoritarianism and protect the most vulnerable among us.

Violence: Some magical violence and fights, violence against animals.

Language: None

Sex: None

Drugs: None

Parents’ advisory: OK for kids of all ages but probably too scary for the littlest ones. Ages 8+ most likely.

'FATHER STU'

Rated R for language throughout.

What it’s about: The true story of a boozing, boxing actor who turns his life around and enters the priesthood.

The kid attractor factor: Perhaps star Mark Wahlberg, but this is more of an adult drama.

Good lessons/bad lessons: Redemption is always an option, suffering brings you closer to God.

Violence: Some bloody boxing matches and bar brawls, an extremely violent motorcycle accident, and other bodily horrors.

Language: There's a truly laughable amount of swearing for a Catholic movie.

Sex: References to sex and an implied sex scene (no nudity).

Drugs: Drinking

Parents’ advisory: This is a bit mature for kids but OK for older kids and teens who can handle the material.
