Family friendly weekend Funtropolis returns to Merrion Square Park

Funtropolis returns to Merrion Square Park this weekend between 12pm and 6pm on Saturday July 8 and Sunday July 9. The family friendly festival returns after a successful run last year.

The event, which is run by Dublin City Council, is the perfect way to spend a summer weekend with exciting performances, aerial exhibitions, groovy tunes, educational entertainment, delicious food and drink options and much more. The council will also be introducing its innovative new outdoor mobile child sensory unit, for children who identify as neurodiverse.

The sensory unit will also be present at all suitable future Dublin City Council outdoor events, allowing for an inclusive experience for everyone in the community. There will be number of fun events on over the weekend which will ensure fun for all the family.

For music lovers there will be performances from the talented CÓRus Choir, Code of Behaviour, and DJ Donal Dineen. There will be a showcasing of local musical talent in association with First Music Contact, and multicultural collective Go Dance for Change will perform on stage showcasing Dublin's diverse cultures.

There will be a number of entertaining shows on over the weekend including ones from Mark the Science Guy, the two-woman punk circus Snatch & Grab, all-woman cabaret act Daring Dames, Death or Circus presented by Tumble Circus, and the explosive acrobatic show On Tish by Síolta Circus that will provide excitement and thrills for all ages. Curious State's hilarious tragicomedy, Le pOpéra, will have audiences in stitches with its humour, live music, and comic songs.

There will also be a performance by hit show The Grannies the all-female clown duo Bill & Fred and Fanzini Productions' Ballet Poulet which is a masterpiece of dance and comedy. There will be free face painting and The Little Gem Puppet Show to keep the younger children entertained.

There will be mindset workshops and Samba lessons for children aged three to six, and there will be a wellbeing zone and a science zone with different engaging aspects to peak children and parents interests alike. Book lovers of all ages will also be delighted with the mobile library.

Dublin City Council is implementing a no single plastic measure at Funtropolis reducing the festival's carbon footprint by using only HVO generators. There will be a baby feeding area provided and a drinking water station to allow everyone to refill their reusable water bottles.

Dublin City Council Funtropolis will also take place in Mountjoy Square Park on Saturday August 19 and Sunday August 20. For more information check out the Funtropolis website.
