'Family friendly' Leeds suburb Pudsey rated one of best places to live

Otley, Pudsey and Farsley have been picked by The Sunday Times as the best places to buy a home in Leeds and Yorkshire.

The market town of Otley, on the fringes of the city, is described as 'a worthy rival to nearby Harrogate and Ilkley'. Attractive, traditional and ideally located for the best of both city and country, Otley is markedly cheaper than both Harrogate and Ilkley.

According to Zoopla data, the average sale price of a home in Otley in the last 12 months was £305,000. In Harrogate, it was £370,000 and in Ilkley, it was £438,000.

Pudsey was meanwhile described as 'a good-value, family-friendly suburb'. Handily located between Leeds and Bradford – although definitely part of Leeds – it's well connected and has plenty of space and amenities.

It is indeed affordable too. The average sale price of a home in Pudsey in the last 12 months was £230,000, according to Zoopla figures.

Meanwhile neighbouring Farsley is described as 'a slightly hipper alternative' to Pudsey. It's cheaper too with an average sale price of a home in the last 12 months of £206,000.

And if all that sounds a bit quiet The Sunday Times rated Leeds city centre as 'one of the best places to live in 2022'.

Sunday Times writer Jayne Dowle says: "Although Leeds does still bear the legacy of shoddy property schemes, the compact city centre, is now brimming with choice — student accommodation, owner-occupied apartments in period conversions, private rentals and build-to-rent schemes...

"You are within walking distance of one of the most impressive collections of shops in the UK, including the only branch of John Lewis in Yorkshire after the 2021 closure of the Sheffield store."

The average sale price of a home in LS1 – the bulk of the city centre – in the last 12 months was £225,000.
