Family 'deeply shocked' after Glasgow man's death in M74 lorry crash horror

A Glasgow man who died after being hit by lorry on the M74 in Glasgow has been named.

Ben Miller, 39, was pronounced dead at the scene after the tragic incident on late Saturday, June 3.

The tragedy unfolded near to the on-ramp from Polmadie, Junction 1A, at around 11.35pm. Police and emergency crew raced to the scene after receiving reports of a 39-year-old male being knocked down by a HGV.

The road remained closed until 5am the following morning (June 4).

Officers are appealing for witnesses as they try to establish the full circumstances surrounding the horrific crash.

Ben's family are "deeply shocked" by the sudden passing of their loved one and ask for privacy during such a difficult time.

His heartbroken family released a statement: “We are deeply shocked at Ben's sudden passing.

“Ben leaves behind a close family and many loving friends, and we are very grateful for all the messages of love and support that we have received.

“We ask that our wishes for privacy at this difficult time are respected.”

Sergeant John Houston, Glasgow Road Policing, said: “Our thoughts remain with Mr Miller’s family and friends at this time.

“We are continuing with our enquiries to establish the full circumstances surrounding the crash.

“I would like to speak to anyone who was in the area and may have seen what happened who hasn’t yet spoken to police to contact 101, quoting reference number 5187 of June 3.”
