Family 'angry and hurt' as dad dies 24 hours after being given devastating cancer news

A woman is 'angry' and 'hurt' after her dad suddenly died within a day of her being told he had cancer.

Unknown to his family, Colin Brady, 69, had been diagnosed with lung, liver and throat cancer the day before his tragic death on February 11.

Relatives - who thought he had a chest infection - were only notified about his illness in the early hours of the morning before he passed, Leeds Live reports.

Colin's daughter Samantha has now set up a GoFundMe page to raise money for his funeral.

Samantha told Leeds Live: "Dad went into hospital the Friday before with what we thought was a chest infection and was then told on the Sunday that he had cancer.

"He was supposed to tell us that he had cancer and he didn't, how is a dying man expected to tell his whole family that he was dying."

Samantha and her mum were called to the hospital around 4pm in the morning on February 10, still unaware their much loved dad and husband had cancer - they found out after they got to the hospital the day before he tragically died.

She added: "When we found out we were told it was stage 3 and then a few hours later it went to stage 4, the nurses were shocked that no one had told us.

"Within 24 hours we found and he died.

"We are so angry that nobody told us he had cancer, we thought he had a chest infection which the doctors kept giving him steroids to treat, there was no x-ray or anything, nothing was done, we're so angry with everything."

The family have had to borrow the money from a family friend to pay for the funeral and are hoping to raise enough money through their fundraiser to pay the borrowed money back - anything over £2,000 will be donated to cancer research.

Samantha said: "It's been one big roller coaster that we can't get off.

"My mum is a full time carer and my sister is disabled so it's making it very hard to afford the funeral costs."

Not only are the family struggling with funeral costs, but they also claim to have learnt that their rent has had to go up because of his passing and they're unable to claim any support with housing costs and council tax because of his private pension - which is adding to their worries.

The family want to urge anyone who has a chest infection or anything similar to please go for a X-ray or get tests done, they said: "We don't want anyone's family to suffer like we are.

"If we could save someone else that would be great."
