Families taken off 'boiling' Ryanair flight after nan 'faints in seat'

Families claim they were asked to leave a delayed Ryanair flight which was so hot it reportedly caused a nan to faint in her seat.

Kim Jones is one of many passengers who say they were left stranded in Spain overnight on Wednesday after their flight from Palma de Majorca back to Liverpool John Lennon Airport was met with hours of delays. Kim, who works as a tour manager, said it was "the worst experience" she'd ever encountered, with the situation onboard leaving her feeling unsafe.

The 62-year-old, from Aigburth, told the ECHO: "I've been all over the world taking groups to China, India, and this is the worst experience I've ever encountered. I was really quite concerned last night.

"I was genuinely, I would say, a little bit scared because I felt I was in unprofessional hands. It was so hot onboard that somebody actually had to be taken in an ambulance.

"I'm surprised actually that there wasn't more people taken off in an ambulance. I actually had to say to a cabin member 'go and tell the captain now to put the aircon on.'"

Passengers were reportedly asked to leave the plane after an elderly woman fell ill onboard and she was taken away in an ambulance. One man, who did not want to be named, told the ECHO: "It was absolutely boiling so they got [the woman] off and then the pilot decided for health and safety reasons they couldn't fly. The staff were just drenched."

With only a handful of hotel rooms available for people to stay in, passengers said many families and young children were left with no other option but to spend the night in the airport. One man said children were crying in the airport as people become more frustrated about the lack of information.

He added: "There was no water, no vouchers, nowhere open and no information, that's the most appalling part. No one knows what we're doing. I can deal with delays, I wouldn't normally get so Irate about it, but it's just been absolutely potty in the sense that no one knows what we're doing."

Ryanair has been approached for comment.
