With the news of Goose Fair set to return in 2022, families and loyal fans of the annual spectacle are 'thrilled' to be able to attend the 10 day special after two years of it being cancelled. Goose Fair was cancelled in 2020 and 2021 due to fears of the spread of Covid, but now the event is expected to be extended to ten days. The annual fun-fest, which usually attracts a crowd of 420,000 over five days, will run from Friday September 30 to Sunday October 9.
Nottinghamshire Live visited the Forest Recreation Ground, where the fair will take place, to ask people how they feel about the exciting news. Charley King, 38, mother, from Bulwell, is thrilled to hear about the extended event.
She said: "I'm so happy to hear that, I can take my three children, my youngest hasn't been because it has been cancelled for two years, so they can experience that. My kids will be thrilled to hear about it, we usually go every year and I'm glad it'll be on for longer this year, it sort of makes up for the years it hasn't been on. Hopefully there will be some new stuff added also, I'll definitely be there."

Omar Hussain, 45, taxi driver, from Hyson Green, says it's a sign that things are returning back to normal. He said: "I think its a great idea, families will love to hear that they can go again.I know it was cancelled because of Covid which was very fair enough, but now that it will open again shows that were getting over that now. I don't go as much anymore, but I know what it means for people and even the businesses there - it'll be a good atmosphere."
The decision follows last year's controversy when council plans to erect a perimeter fence around the recreation ground and charge admission. The issue was further complicated by government proposals for Covid passports for large-scale events.
Christopher Brown, 67, retired, who lives in Radford, hopes it'll be a success. He said: "People were angry with what happened last year so I know people will be expecting a lot this time round. I used to always go years back, it's a really nice and fun thing that Nottingham does, it's really good for children. It's good news, fingers crossed it will happen."
