Familiar face looks set to replace Dan Walker on BBC Breakfast

Regular BBC Breakfast host Dan Walker is leaving the show this week to move to Channel 5, and his replacement looks set to be a familiar face. Strictly Come Dancing contestant Dan announced he was quitting the BBC on social media, explaining: "I have a little bit of news for you. In the next few weeks, I'm going to be leaving BBC Breakfast and moving to 5 News and to Channel 5.

"I'm really excited but this has also been a massive decision for me because I love BBC Breakfast. I love working alongside Sally and I love the team there, but Channel 5 came with big ambitions, with big plans, and I don't think opportunities like this come around very often and I can't wait."

Bookies are certain that BBC Breakfast star Jon Kay will take Dan's place, reports the Daily Star. Jon regularly stands in for Dan when he's on holiday, presenting alongside the likes of Naga Munchetty and Sally Nugent.

Speaking exclusively to Daily Star Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: "It's looking increasingly likely that BBC chiefs have found Dan Walker's replacement, and he's no stranger to the Breakfast family, with Jon Kay pulling away from the chasing pack."

He added: "Gethin Jones was favourite to get the gig once upon a time but has seen his odds drift over the last few days, and it now looks as though it's Kay's role if he wants it."

Also in the running are BBC star Mike Bushell at 4/1, Dan's Strictly rival AJ Odudu at 5/1 and ITV star Laura Tobin coming in at 6/1.

Jon Kay leads them all at 1/2.

Gethin comes in at 7/2, with Jermaine Jenas following at 9/2 and Matt Baker coming in at 9/1.

Officially, bosses are still looking for Dan's permanent replacement, with Dan and Sally both sharing job ads on social media - and Dan warning his replacement to "look after the sofa".

BBC Breakfast airs daily from 6am on BBC One.
