False Start: QB Deshaun Watson will not play vs. Seahawks after all

After he was initially slated to suit up in the preseason finale against the Seattle Seahawks, the Cleveland Browns have called an audible and will not play quarterback Deshaun Watson after all.

Backup quarterback Jameis Winston will get the start while Dorian Thompson-Robinson and Tyler Huntley will carry the bulk of the load once again.

Earlier this week, head coach Kevin Stefanski had stated that his starters should expect to play but left the door open for Watson to rest as he gathered more information. With Watson resting for a portion of Wednesday’s practice, and with the offensive line depth in complete shambles with less than three weeks to go until the Dallas Cowboys come to town, the Browns see it better for their quarterback to sit this one out.

This means the first live-action snaps that Watson will see since his season-ending shoulder surgery a year ago will come in Week 1 (outside of the joint practice reps he took against the Minnesota Vikings during training camp).
