Justin Devenny has urged Airdrie to stamp their authority on the game when Falkirk visit New Broomfield in League One this afternoon.
The 18-year-old expects a tough game against John McGlynn’s side, but says the Diamonds must keep their standards high, because switching off even for a minute will see them punished in a challenging division.
Airdrie got their campaign off to a great start with a 2-0 win up at Peterhead, with goals from Callum Smith and Craig Watson, and Devenny hopes to continue that today.
He told Airdrie’s website: “It will be hard fixtures every week, so we just need to keep the standards high and put demands on ourselves to go and win the games.
“You can never take a wee minute off or you could get punished.
“That’s why the standards are so high and that’s why we will hopefully go on to do well this season.
“It will be good to show what I can do against them [Falkirk].
“It will be a good challenge, but obviously we hope to stamp our authority on the game and get the win.
“The boys are full of confidence just now.”
Devenny joined Airdrie permanently in the summer after impressing on loan from Kilmarnock last season, and is delighted to be making the first steps in his career.
He said: “I’m really enjoying it, to be fair. It has been much better because I’m getting involved, getting myself on the scoresheet – which I came here to do – and got a wee assist at the weekend, which I hope to build on.
“It’s amazing coming in here again and starting a new chapter. As I say, I’m hoping to keep building on it and keep improving.”
Boss Rhys McCabe says Falkirk have had a good start to the season, drawing 0-0 in their opener against Montrose on Saturday, but expects his side to stand up to the challenge.
He said: “We fully expect them to be coming and giving it a right good go.
“No matter who comes here, whether it be Falkirk, Premiership sides, Lowland League sides, regardless, we’re at home, so we come to win.”
