Falkirk projects get share of £26K in bid to tackle climate change

Three Falkirk community groups are to get a share of more than £26,000 to help them act on climate change.

Over 100 groups across the country will benefit from the National Lottery Community Fund, to take collective action by focussing on the small changes they can make locally.

Projects range from repair and recycle schemes and green transport initiatives so community gardens and educational workshops.

In Falkirk, Central Wellbeing SCIO will be awarded £10,000, and will use the cash to establish a 'Make and Mend' group in the Falkirk area.

Board of Management of Forth Valley College of Further and Higher Education will be handed £6,839.

Staff there want to use their money to develop a series of climate change focussed podcasts, which will be developed and delivered by young people.

Westfield Park Community Centre which will use its £9,600 award to encourage local residents to up-cycle through community sewing workshops.

The group, which took part in COP26 with children making puppets and their clothes from recycled material, will teach people how to recycle and refashion old clothes.

Kate Still, Scotland Chair of the National Lottery Community Fund, said: "Thanks to National Lottery players, this funding will enable community groups in Falkirk to take meaningful and ongoing action on climate change.

"By thinking locally and focusing on what this means for them, they will collectively build on small actions that will contribute to the wider climate action movement.I look forward to seeing these projects come to life over the coming months.

"Not only will they make significant environmental improvements, but they will also help communities to thrive.”
