Falkirk residents are being given the chance to help shape plans to develop around 200 houses on the site of the former Forth Valley College.
A consultation which launched online today (Monday) aims to find out from the local community what type of housing is most needed on the Middlefield site and what recreation and play facilities should look like.
Gannet Developments Ltd says it aims to build a mixture of detached, semi-detached and terraced homes and apartments ranging from one-four bedrooms on the 18-acre site.
It says 15 per cent of the new homes will be affordable housing, to be delivered by working with a social housing provider.
Gannet – a partnership between Dawn Developments and Forrest Developments – says that local estate agents have confirmed that locally there is a shortage of all housing types, in particular three-bedroom, semi-detached houses.
However, the developer is keen to hear more views and tomorrow (Tuesday, February 1) there will also be a chance to go online and find out more in a live chat, from 3-7pm.
It is also interested in finding out what local people would like to see in the green space that it plans to incorporate.
Gannet has pledged to maintain the trees that are already on the site and promises the final proposals will be “an attractive place to live that includes greenspace, footpath and cycle connections”.
The site is along a planned ‘green corridor’ that will run from the Helix to Falkirk town centre and the houses will be fairly close to the long-anticipated Falkirk Gateway.
It has been earmarked for housing on the current local development plan.
Access to the new homes would be off Middlefield Road and a new roundabout is planned for the junction of Middlefield Rd and Grangemouth Rd, as part of a major upgrade along the A9/A904.
This stage of the consultation closes at 5pm on Friday February 25 and there will be another consultation in spring.
The developers hope to apply for planning permission later this year.
