A domestic abuser who pushed his partner backwards onto a toilet -- causing a "possible" broken rib -- has been jailed.
James Boyle, 46, accused his victim, Alison Crossan, of infidelity, and subjected her to more than a year of abusive behaviour, Falkirk Sheriff Court was told.
Between April 1st 2020 and April 11th 2021, he regularly shouted and swore at her, made derogatory remarks, and several times seized her by the throat.
Prosecutor Fiona Griffin said Boyle and Miss Crossan's relationship, then 18 months old, had been going well until April 2020, when he began accusing her of having an affair with his best friend.
Over the next year, he grabbed her by the throat and pushed her to the ground on a number of occasions and "barged" into the toilet where she had retreated during an argument, punching three holes in the door.
He told her: "Any wonder your kids don't like you. You have no friends and you're a b****.
"You f****** liar, you'll burn in hell."
Miss Griffin said that during one argument on November 2nd, 2020, he grabbed her by the hair, threw her to the ground, dragged her to the front door, and "threw her out of the house in her bare feet" at 4.30 am.
In a further incident in April 2021, he began shouting that she was a "cheeky b****" before telling her, at about 11 o'clock at night, that he'd had enough of her, he was sick of her, and that she was to get her stuff and get out of the house.
Miss Griffin said: "She went back into the bedroom to get dressed so that she could leave.
"He entered, grabbed her by the throat, pushed her onto the bed and climbed on top of her."
He then pushed her into the bathroom, where she lost her balance, falling backwards, hitting the side of the bath and toilet, and landing on the floor.
Miss Griffin said: "He looked at her and walked away."
She attended at the Forth Valley Royal Hospital, where doctors found a "possible" broken rib and bruised kidney.
Boyle, of Falkirk, pleaded guilty to engaging in a course of behaviour which was abusive of his partner at an address in Manor Street, Falkirk, and elsewhere.
Defence solicitor Mark Fallon said Boyle accepted that Miss Crossan's injuries were serious.
He said: "He is very remorseful, greatly ashamed, mortified and horrified.
"He puts a lot of his actions down to alcohol and drug misuse at the time."
Sheriff Derek Livingston jailed Boyle for 243 days.
He said: "I am very concerned about a lengthy course of conduct that involves regular grabbing by the throat.
"As far as I can calculate, there were four separate assaults on the complainer over a lengthy period of time.
"The fact that you were under the influence of drugs and alcohol is not in any way an excuse -- in fact in some ways it's an aggravating factor.
"I consider there's no alternative but a custodial sentence."
Boyle showed no emotion as he was escorted below to the cells.
Sheriff Livingston also made a non-harassment order, forbidding Boyle from approaching or contacting Miss Crossan for two years.
