Falcons sign two players to practice squad, release two others

The Atlanta Falcons made multiple changes to their practice squad on Monday afternoon. The team signed linebacker Rashaan Evans and offensive lineman Tyrone Wheatley Jr. while releasing offensive lineman Coy Cronk and outside linebacker Monty Rice.

Evans, a former first-round pick, played for the Falcons in 2022 under defensive coordinator Dean Pees. The 28-year-old led the team with 159 tackles (86 solo), adding two sacks and a forced fumble in 17 starts. Evans was signed to the practice squad a few weeks ago but released in Week 6.

Wheatley, 27, went undrafted before signing with the Chicago Bears in 2021. He would bounce around before appearing in two games for the New England Patriots during the 2023 season. His father, Tyrone Wheatley Sr., was a star at the University of Michigan and a first-round pick in the 1995 NFL draft.

According to Falcons reporter Terrin Waack, Atlanta also released linebacker Milo Eifler from the injured reserve list. Check out the Falcons’ updated 53-man roster and practice squad entering NFL Week 8.
