Atlanta Falcons quarterback Kirk Cousins is steadily progressing in his recovery from a torn Achilles tendon as the team gears up for next week's mandatory minicamp. Head coach Raheem Morris expressed satisfaction with Cousins' dedication and participation in the organized team activities, noting that the veteran QB has been actively involved in the team's preparations.
Despite suffering the injury during the 2023 season with the Minnesota Vikings, Cousins, 35, has been diligently working on his rehabilitation and is focused on regaining full strength. Morris commended Cousins for his commitment to getting healthy and praised his work ethic during the offseason program.
Cousins himself highlighted the importance of getting valuable practice reps throughout the program, exceeding his initial expectations of when he would be able to participate. While feeling ahead of schedule in his recovery, Cousins emphasized the need to listen to his body and not rush back to full-speed practice until he is completely ready.
Having signed a lucrative contract with the Falcons earlier this year, Cousins remains a key figure in the team's plans despite the addition of rookie Michael Penix Jr. as the No. 8 overall pick in the NFL draft. The Falcons are prioritizing Cousins' health and aim for him to be close to 100% by the start of the regular season against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sept. 8.
Meanwhile, running back Bijan Robinson also made progress in his recovery from an ankle sprain, returning to practice and expressing his eagerness to fully participate in upcoming minicamp and training camp activities.
The Falcons are optimistic about the progress of both Cousins and Robinson as they continue their preparations for the upcoming season.
