Falcons provide injury updates on Matt Bergeron, Troy Andersen

The Atlanta Falcons lost a physical battle against the Seattle Seahawks in Week 7 and both teams suffered their share of injuries in the process. Falcons left guard Matthew Bergeron left the game with a head/neck injury and did not return.

Center Ryan Neuzil, tight end Charlie Woerner and defensive lineman James Smith-William each temporarily exited Sunday’s game. Head coach Raheem Morris met with the media on Monday afternoon and provided some injury updates.

“I think everybody is going to be okay,” said Morris. “We’ll get some more clarity on it today. Obviously, we’ve got some nicks and bruises from a typical NFL game.”

Morris went through a few specific injuries, including the one to Bergeron.

“[Bergeron] was a guy that cleared concussion protocol and then, you know, because obviously he had the neck injury type of deal, that’s kind of a part of the new protocol if you get hurt.”

Linebacker Troy Andersen, who missed the previous three games after winning NFC Defensive Player of the Week, will return to practice this week.

“Troy is going to practice for us on Wednesday. We’ll get him out there, get him moving around a little bit. See where he is. Obviously, Troy is a Ferrari, so to speak. And Troy’s game is based off of being able to move fast and vicious and speed. What makes Troy special — scoring touchdowns for us — is his ability to run and be as healthy as possible.”

Morris was also asked about linebacker Lorenzo Carter, who was placed on the injured reserve list with a concussion shortly after being ruled out for Week 7.

“The recommendation was to shut it down for a little bit,” explained the Falcons head coach. “I wanna do whatever’s best for our guys in order to protect them from a health and safety standpoint, particularly when you care about these guys the way I do.”
