The Atlanta Falcons made a surprising move on Saturday afternoon, placing starting outside linebacker Lorenzo Carter on the injured reserve list. Carter missed Wednesday’s practice with what was initially listed as an illness but later changed to a concussion.
The 28-year-old was already ruled out for the Falcons’ Week 7 matchup against the Seattle Seahawks but now he’s out for at least four weeks. Carter has 15 tackles (11 solo), two QB hits and zero sacks in six games this season.
The team signed defensive back Kevin King from the practice squad to replace Carter on the 53-man roster. King has gone back and forth from the practice squad to the roster multiple times this season but has appeared in all six regular season games.
With Carter out for the foreseeable future, the Falcons will look to Arnold Ebiketie, James Smith-Williams and DeAngelo Malone to pick up the slack this weekend against the Seahawks.
The Falcons also elevated defensive back Natrone Brooks and outside linebacker Demone Harris from the practice squad as standard Week 7 elevations.
