Falcons’ Kyle Pitts Clearly Doesn’t Believe the Kirk Cousins-to-Atlanta Rumors

Atlanta Falcons tight end Kyle Pitts emphatically shut down a rumor Tuesday that he and Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins have been in contact about a possible team-up in Atlanta.

While appearing on ESPN’s The Pat McAfee Show, ProFootballTalk’s Mike Florio said he heard a rumor that Cousins, who is set to be an unrestricted free agent this offseason, has been in contact with Pitts about possibly taking his jersey number should he join the Falcons. Both players wear the No. 8.

“Haven’t confirmed this part yet, but it’s just one of those little things that makes sense,” Florio said regarding Cousins to Atlanta rumors. “You know, [Cousins was] talking to the guy who currently wears No. 8, Kyle Pitts, about getting No. 8 before any of this stuff is done.”

Of course, Florio said he has not yet confirmed that part, but had no problem putting the rumor out there to a national audience, and Pitts decided to do the vetting for him.

“This is actually funny you guys come up with anything,” Pitts said on X, formerly Twitter.

Cousins only played in eight games this past year before suffering a season-ending torn Achilles in Week 8. Before the catastrophic injury, the 35-year-old was on pace for his best season ever. In those eight games, he threw for 2,331 yards and 18 touchdowns to five interceptions. The Falcons, meanwhile, are likely in the market for another signal-caller after Desmond Ridder, who was benched during the season, once again struggled this year.

NFL free agency starts March 13.
