Falcons interview Jeff Ulbrich for defensive coordinator opening

The Atlanta Falcons have completed a second interview for their defensive coordinator vacancy. New York Jets interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich officially interviewed with the team on Wednesday.

Ulbrich, 47, is no stranger to Falcons fans. He was with the team from 2015-2020, serving as the linebackers coach for the first five seasons before taking over as defensive coordinator and assistant head coach when Dan Quinn was fired early in the 2020 season.

Raheem Morris took over as interim head coach in place of Quinn and worked closely with Ulbrich over the final 11 games of the season.

In 2021, Ulbrich moved on to New York where he worked as the defensive coordinator under Robert Saleh for three seasons before taking over as interim head coach once Saleh was fired in Week 6.

Ulbrich is also a former NFL linebacker. He was selected in the third round of the 2000 NFL draft by the San Francisco 49ers, racking up over 500 combined tackles over nine seasons.

The Falcons interviewed University of Michigan defensive coordinator Wink Martindale on Tuesday and have interviews scheduled with Steve Wilks and Lou Anarumo next week.
