Falcons had interest in Brian Burns at trade deadline, per report

The Atlanta Falcons let the 2023 trade deadline pass without making any major deals, but it was not for lack of trying. Earlier this week, it was reported that the team pursued defensive lineman Montez Sweat before being outbid by the Chicago Bears.

Now, ESPN’s Adam Schefter is reporting that the Falcons were one of five teams to inquire about Panthers edge rusher Brian Burns.

“The Jacksonville Jaguars, Atlanta Falcons and Baltimore Ravens also reached out to the Panthers about Burns, according to sources,” Schefter wrote in his story. “But the Panthers shut down those teams just as quickly as they inquired and had no intention of trading the coveted Burns.”

Ultimately, Atlanta came away with defensive lineman Kentavius Street on the Monday before the deadline, but a star like Burns would have really fired up the fan base.

Burns is a free agent in 2024 and will likely command a monster contract. If they’re still interested, the Falcons could target him this offseason.
