The Atlanta Falcons have a passionate fan base that’s been driven mad by the team’s mediocrity in recent years. Six consecutive losing seasons and three straight 7-10 finishes will do that to you.
After a promising 6-3 start, Sunday’s 17-13 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers dropped the Falcons to 6-6. Kirk Cousins tossed four interceptions, overshadowing a dominant effort by Atlanta’s defense.
The Chargers offense scored just 10 points (Cousins threw a pick-six on fourth down) and the Falcons recorded a season-high five sacks. However, it’s tough to win when your four-time Pro Bowl QB turns the ball over four times.
After the game, Falcons fans vented their frustrations on Twitter, with some suggesting the team bench Cousins for rookie Michael Penix Jr. going forward.
Falcons Twitter calls out Cousins
Man make it stop.
Give us Penix Jr. if Bo Nix can do it in Denver, Penix can do it with all these weapons in Atlanta. https://t.co/q8W1JGKCEp

Can’t put any blame on the defense, especially when they got us 5 sacks & no touchdowns given up. This all falls on Kirk Cousins & Zac Robinson.

Kirk Cousins was all kinds of awful today. Not sure if the rookie is ready but that has to be considered – the #Falcons are much less than the sum of their parts.

Falcons going to have to take a long look at benching Cousins this week. All the joy this new regime built is gone. Total collapse, but at least we got a family like atmosphere in the building with Raheem. Immensely more talented roster this year and same results. Complete…

Raheem Morris asked about what Kirk Cousins needs to show to bounce back from this game as he continues to reiterate that benching him is not even a thought.
“Don’t turn the ball over. It’s really simple. He did everything right today outside of turning the ball over.”

The positive? The defense looked refreshed and productive. Love the game Ebiketie had

I’m at a loss for words. I just pray that I see a Falcons Super Bowl win in my lifetime.
