In one of Week 10’s biggest surprises, the Atlanta Falcons suffered a 20-17 loss at the hands of the New Orleans Saints. What was anticipated to be a blowout of a lowly 2-7 team instead became a story of a slow start, missed opportunities, and an unceremonious upset that no one saw coming.
“We had all of the chances in the world to win that one today,” head coach Raheem Morris said in his opening comments during the postgame press conference.
The good news for the Falcons is that they still sit on top of the NFC South — and rather comfortably so — at 6-4. It is Atlanta’s first divisional loss of the season.
And moving to 7-3 on Sunday would have been something historic, considering the Falcons have not turned a 6-3 overall record into a 7-3 overall record since 1980.
It’s easy to believe that even one of Younghoe Koo’s three missed field goal attempts could have made all the difference in Week 10. But, for now, the Falcons have no choice but to move on from Sunday’s loss and stay focused on the bigger picture.
The team will look to get to the right side of the win column when they face the Denver Broncos on the road next Sunday at 4:05 p.m. ET in Mile High Stadium.
