Japanese video game developer Falcom shared new details about the upgraded version of "Ys X: Nordics" and revealed the release window for "Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter."

The latest development comes as it is very rare for the studio to re-release a relatively recent game, as it is known for an annual release pattern. "Ys X: Proud Nordics" was just announced and described as a "significantly upgraded" version of the original title.

The game is set to come out in Japan next year and will feature a new storyline as well as a new area to bring "numerous new elements."

Falcom has not yet announced what platforms "Ys X: Proud Nordics" will be released on, but it is expected to at least come to the PlayStation 5.

It is also worth noting that "Ys X: Nordics" was originally released in September 2023 in Japan, which is only about a year ago.

It took almost a year for Falcom's action RPG to get a Western release, which was published by NIS America in late October 2024, according to Push Square.

The announcement of a re-release makes fans feel like it was poorly timed and is expected to receive quite a bit of criticism, particularly from those who paid full price for "Ys X: Nordics." There have also been comparisons between Falcom and "Persona" creator Atlus.

The latter is already spreading on social media platforms online as it is notorious for re-releases. Another thing that fans are asking about is if "Ys X: Proud Nordics" will be getting a Western release.

"Ys X: Proud Nordics" will feature Aland Island as a massive region that is found north of Obelia Gulf. Adol and the pirate princess Karja visit the island in the midst of battling the immortal creatures called Grieger, Gematsu said.

Adol and his companions go off on an adventure following a sudden encounter with another "Mana user." "Ys X: Proud Nordics" still features the intense action brought by "Cross Actions" between Adol and Karja.

However, the game also builds on this foundation by introducing new "Mana Actions" along with a large map of Aland Island and exploration areas. Falcom also added a lot of content, such as new bosses, Mana Ride races, and arena battles.

The company also shared more details about the upcoming "Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter," including the remake's release window. The game is expected to launch on Nintendo Switch, PC, and PlayStation 5 during Fall 2025.

"Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter" was revealed earlier this year, and it will be published in the West by GungHo Online Entertainment. It will come with English and Japanese voice-overs and English, Japanese, French, and German subtitles, according to WCCFTech.
