Fake police officer told pair to pull trousers and underwear down in bizarre bogus street search

A prankster who pretended to be a police officer and told two men to pull down their trousers and underwear during a fake search has been fined £420.

Brian McCarron, 34, pulled up alongside the men as they walked along a road in Motherwell, Lanarkshire.

He claimed to be a serving member of Police Scotland and demanded they empty their pockets and take down their lower clothing.

Both victims, who cannot be named for legal reasons, initially complied with the bizarre request but then challenged McCarron about being a fake police officer.

He drove off but footage of the incident later appeared on social media and led to McCarron and a co-accused Craig Barton, 21, being reported to police.

McCarron, of Motherwell, appeared at Hamilton Sheriff Court and admitted impersonating a constable in September this year.

He was fined by Sheriff Kevin Duffy.

Barton, of Motherwell, was cleared of impersonating a police officer and an allegation he filmed one of the men exposing his genitals.

A source said: "This was an absolutely bizarre incident.

"Both victims were simply walking along the road in the evening and found themselves involved in this situation.

"McCarron might have thought it was funny but he wasn't laughing when he ended up in the dock.

"Luckily both men realised what was happening before things went any further."

Prosecutors dropped a charge which alleged McCarron had intentionally caused one of the men to participate in sexual activity by ordering him to pull down his trousers and expose his genitals.
