Faithless singer Maxi Jazz has died aged 65.
Taking to Facebook, the group announced the death of their bandmate - whose real name was Maxwell Fraser - writing: "We are heartbroken to say Maxi Jazz died last night. He was a man who changed our lives in so many ways.
"He gave proper meaning and message to our music. He was a lovely human being with time for everyone and a wisdom that was both profound and accessible. It was an honour and, of course, a true pleasure to work with him.
"He was a brilliant lyricist, a DJ, a Buddhist, a magnificent stage presence, car lover, endless talker, beautiful person, moral compass and genius.
"Rollo, Sister Bliss & The E-Type Boy x".
Faithless keyboard player Ayalah Deborah Bentovim, better known by her stage name Sister Bliss, also shared the news on social media.
Sharing a picture of Maxi with her followers, she wrote: "Maxi Jazz 1957 - 2022. We are heartbroken to share that Maxi died peacefully in his sleep last night.
"Sending love to all of you who shared our musical journey. Look after each other y’hear."
Maxi was best known for his role as the lead vocalist of British electronic band Faithless from 1995 to 2011 and 2015.
People flocked to social media to pay their respect for their late musician.
Scots broadcaster Edith Bowman paid tribute to the musician, writing: "Such sad news.. an incredible presence in my music world and millions of others.. thank you for the memories dear man.. love and very deepest condolences to all the faithless family xxx"
Radio broadcaster Phil Williams said: "Really saddened to hear of Maxi Jazz’s death. Had an amazing lost night with him once which ended the morning after. He was kind, gentle and really funny. I loved watching him live, he was an amazing frontman. ‘You don’t need eyes to see, You need vision.’"
TV presenter Jamie East wrote: "“Ripping off tights with my teeth” is such a great f***ing lyric. RIP #Maxijazz"
DJ Dave Pearce tweeted: "So sad to learn Maxi Jazz has passed away. Faithless were an iconic force in UK dance music from the mid 90's and touched so many lives. Throughout their meteoric rise to fame Maxi remained a warm, cool, friendly soul - dance music's poet- thoughts with his family and friends RIP"
